Our Story
OpCenter was founded by two partners in the logistics industry with over 50 years of combined experience in warehousing, fulfillment, logistics, eCommerce and commercial order fulfillment. As they were looking to replace their own warehouse management system they found that many of the available options were severely lacking. The idea to blaze their own trail was born.
The first step in this process was the OpCenter Kiosk system. Using this system the team was able to track labor costs and productivity in real-time. Just this small step led to significant increases in both output and profitability. They could now make meaningful adjustments to processes and provide timely coaching to team members and directly, and instantaneously, affect the bottom line of processes in the warehouse.
The next piece of the puzzle was an updated portal experience for clients and customers. Live inventory information, order details, order entry, and a host of metrics were added to further improve the software for both the warehouse users and the customers alike. It all had to be intuitive and it all had to be productive. Many days (and nights) were spent working on the processes from a user perspective to ensure that training time could be minimized while production was maximized.
Once the kiosks and customer portal were in place, focus shifted to warehouse operations. The “Pick to Light” picking carts were born! Custom designed mobile kiosks were added to custom built carts to streamline the order picking process. On the software side, picking path logic was created so that an entire cartful of orders could be picked in a logical path to ensure the least effort (and time) was spent picking each order. Each time an item is picked, it’s scanned and a light shines brightly under the assigned order tote, making the process easy and efficient. In the first few months alone the new picking carts increased picking productivity by over 75%!
After the resounding success of both the kiosks and the picking carts, the team set their sights on full warehouse management, order management, productivity / time management, and logistics software integration. Day in and day out the team works to continue to improve all facets of the software to provide an improved user experience as well as improved productivity through innovation of both technology and processes. No matter how much the software grows, the ideals that began the journey will always remain: User friendly operations paired with real-time metrics and, above all else, an open-minded and collaborative process.
